Melissa Mosher

Melissa Mosher is a temporarily retired Administrative Coordinator/Recreation Specialist who is currently a stay-at-home mom. She lives in Northeast Wisconsin with her husband and two children, a daughter who was born in early February, and her 4-year-old son.

Melissa and her family

Melissa is concerned about the pollution and health problems from the Edgewater coal plant that is within a few miles of her home. The air and water quality as well as health difficulties in children and pollution in consumable fish are of particular concern. When considering where to raise her children, the proximity to the coal plant is a major deciding factor.

"We love this area; the lakefront and opportunities to explore nature are wonderful. After walking at Lakeshore Park, near the coal plant, the black streaks in the sand became especially disconcerting. In relation to the scenery, Blue Harbor and Kohler-Andrea State Park are beautiful, but certain views are completely ruined by the coal stacks. This certainly diminishes the level of tourism and related jobs in the area."
