Take the Coal-Free Washington Pledge, Get a Free Wristband!
Most people don't even know that we burn coal here in Washington. That's why we need your help! Pledge below to tell 5 friends about Washington's only coal plant, and we'll send you a free wristband that says "Coal to Green by 2015."
Take the pledge:
I pledge to tell at least 5 friends, family members, coworkers or acquaintances that we have a coal plant in Washington and that it is our state's worst polluter.
We apologize, but this action is no longer available. Please visit our Action Center for current opportunities: www.sierraclub.org/takeaction
If you want to take the pledge but aren't sure how to talk about the issue, here are a few key points:
• Washington has one coal-burning power plant, the TransAlta plant.
• The TransAlta plant is our biggest polluter, putting out more global warming pollution, mercury and haze than any other source in the state.
• Mercury is a potent neurotoxin that can cause developmental problems in fetuses. Haze obscures our views of Mt Rainier and the Cascades and harms these natural areas -- the National Parks Service says that the TransAlta Plant harms more National Parks and other protected areas than any other coal plant in the nation!
