Sierra Club Maine is proud to co-sponsor a talk about the threats of dirty tar sands oil by Melina Laboucan-Massimo, a member of the indigenous Lubicon Cree First Nation in northern Alberta and a climate and energy campaigner for Greenpeace Canada.

What: Melina will us about the social, health, and environmental harm tar sands extraction is inflicting on her community and countless communities throughout Canada, the United States, and around the globe.  She will also share her first-hand account of the impacts of one of the largest oil spills in recent history which was just five miles away from her family home.

Where: Hannaford Hall, University of Southern Maine's Abromson Center, 88 Bedford Street, Portland

Light desserts and coffee will be served at 6:30 p.m and welcoming remarks will be given by Chief Kirk Francis, Penobscot Nation.
