Tar sands oil is America's number one source of foreign oil. It creates three times the amount of greenhouse gases as conventional oil and is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gases in Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said he wants tar sands on the agenda for the meeting, and Canadian media has widely reported that he is seeking a U.S. - Canada climate pact that gives special treatment to tar sands emissions in the context of global warming regulation.
Yesterday, an international network of environmental groups launched a campaign supporting President Obama and urging him to stand strong on his clean energy agenda during his visit.

Last week’s Good Jobs Green Jobs Conference in Washington, DC, was a tremendous success. More than 2,700 people attended to listen to some amazing speakers (including Green For All's Van Jones and new EPA head Lisa Jackson), take some great workshops, check out the Green Jobs Expo, and network.

Global Warming's Impact on California, Birds
Two articles in the past week have highlighted the impacts of global warming. First, in a Feb. 4 Los Angeles Times article, Energy Secretary Stephen Chu said that global warming may mean the end of agriculture in California.
Second, a recent study shows that global warming is causing birds to winter further north in recent years.
