At the White House Monday, President Obama took two major actions that fight global warming and reduce our dependence on oil.
First, he directed his Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review whether to grant California a waiver for its clean car law. This news is a major turning point for states who want to take action on global warming especially the 15 states that have been waiting on the EPA for a green light to adopt the California emissions standards.
We are optimistic that after proper review, EPA will grant the waiver. Other states are poised to adopt the standards as well.
Also on Monday, President Obama indicated that his administration will issue new vehicle fuel economy standards in the coming months that will go beyond what the Bush administration had started.
President Obama is making good on campaign promises and sending yet another clear signal that global warming and a clean energy economy are top priorities for his administration. We will continue to work together with the Obama administration to make these priorities a reality.
