President-Elect Barack Obama has big plans to fight global warming, and we want to help him repower, refuel and rebuild America.
But did you know there are four decisions Obama can make on day one of his administration, independently of Congress, that will enable us to start 2009 with a 'clean slate' of energy policies?
Obama can jumpstart a clean energy economy and start reducing global warming pollution immediately by doing the following:
- He can end the rush to build new coal plants by directing his EPA to require all new power plants to limit their global warming emissions.
- He can direct his EPA to approve plans by 18 states to require clean cars.
- He can direct his EPA to end mountaintop removal mining by stopping coal companies from dumping rock and waste into valleys and streams.
- He can restore America's international leadership in the fight to end global warming by publicly committing the U.S. to cut its CO2 emissions at least 35% by 2020.

Dynegy Re-Thinking Coal Power
Did you see that energy company Dynegy is now re-evaluating the role that coal plays in its future power plants?
Citing the high cost of capital and difficulty in permitting new coal-fired power plants, (Dynegy Chief Executive Bruce) Williamson said the company wants to protect cash flow and avoid complex financial arrangements.
This is great news -- we need more power companies to start realizing that coal should not play a role in our country’s clean energy future!
