Sierra Club Launches New Radio Ad in Key Ohio Markets
Cleveland, Ohio--The Sierra Club and Working America, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, have both launched major efforts to speak directly to voters in key battleground states about the importance of good jobs and clean energy. Over the next few weeks, Working America will be talking to hundreds of thousands of its members in the key battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. National Sierra Club and Working America leaders are in Ohio today and will personally join canvassing efforts in Cleveland and Canton.
"Working families in Ohio and across the country are bearing the brunt of the Bush administration’s failed economic and energy policies," said Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director. "It's essential that working families know that Barack Obama has the right plan for our economy, while John McCain only promises more of the same—more tax breaks to send jobs overseas, more unfair trade agreements, and more economic calamity. Sierra Club and Working America share a common vision of rebuilding America's middle class and powering an economic recovery with affordable clean energy and millions of new green jobs that can’t be shipped overseas."
Cathy Duvall, Sierra Club National Political Director, Karen Nussbaum, Working America Executive Director, and Pope will join Working America’s membership canvassing efforts in Cleveland and Canton today. In addition to the these efforts, Working America's efforts will target hundreds of thousands of members across Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and other battleground states.
"With the economy in crisis, it's more important than ever that we’re out in force talking to working families about the stark differences between the candidates on the issues that really matter, like good jobs and an economy that works for all," said Working America’s Executive Director Karen Nussbaum. Working America's canvass will educate its members about the stark differences between the candidates’ plans on jobs and the economy
Sierra Club Launches Radio Ad in Key Ohio Markets
As part of its efforts to reach key voters in Ohio, the Sierra Club today launched a new radio ad, "American Jobs," in the Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown markets. The ad contrasts John McCain's long record of opposing clean energy while supporting tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas with Obama's pledge to end these tax breaks and rebuild our crumbling economy with 5 million new jobs and affordable clean energy.
"We are in the midst of an economic disaster and John McCain only promises to dig the hole deeper with his misguided and dangerous ideas," said Duvall. "Barack Obama's plan will revitalize our economy and help rebuild states like Ohio with millions of new jobs building the clean energy economy—constructing wind turbines, installing solar panels, making fuel efficient cars, and retrofitting our buildings. Working families are the key to this election and it's essential they understand that a vote for John McCain is a vote against the clean energy economy that will help rebuild a strong American middle class.”"
"American Jobs"
60 seconds
The economy's tanking and we're all worried about the future, about losing our homes, our hopes and our jobs.
That's why we need a President we can trust to fix our economy.
But John McCain has refused to support the clean energy industry --
a bright spot in our troubled economy that's projected to create millions of new jobs...
and he's voted to make it easier for companies to outsource jobs.
Barack Obama will end tax breaks for companies that ship American jobs overseas.
He'll invest $150 billion in clean energy. He'll create 5 million new jobs -- making wind turbines, solar panels, energy efficient cars and buildings.
On November 4th, elect a President we can count on to create and keep jobs.
Elect Barack Obama.
