Issue #270 But when the klieg lights of the media grew brighter, the governor tried to back away from her wacky ideas ever so slightly. She told Charlie Gibson that man's activities could maybe, possibly be contributing a little bit to global warming, but that maybe it was also due to natural cycles or some such nonsense. Palin's non-answers then grew even more nonsensical in one of her now legendary interviews with Katie Couric. While trying to explain that maybe some (but surely not all) of global warming could sort of possibly be caused by man, Palin bungled her answer so badly that actually ended up claiming that global warming was (partly) responsible for man's activities: "man's activities that can be contributed to the issues that we're dealing with now, these impacts. I'm not going to solely blame all of man's activities on changes in climate." This brought us to last night's vice-presidential debate, where Gwen Ifill chose to belabor the point in order to give the erstwhile V.P. one last chance to explain exactly what she thinks. And what did we get? Yet another Miss South Carolina moment from Sarah Palin: "I'm not one to attribute every man -- activity of man to the changes in the climate. There is something to be said also for man's activities, but also for the cyclical temperature changes on our planet." Palin also claimed she was the first governor to really address climate change. Not only does she continue to remain willfully unaware of the causes of climate change, but she also failed to recognize that other Republican governors like Schwarzenegger and Crist have actually been true leaders in the fight to reduce global warming pollution in their states and nationwide. If Sarah Palin is willing to say thanks, but no thanks to the science of global warming, it's time for America to say the same to her. ===============================================Paid for by the Sierra Club Political Committee, http://www.sierraclub.org/, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee. =============================================== |
