1) Take Action: Administrator Johnson: Get out of the (Belt)way! California and 11 other states are ready to take action to curb global warming pollution. On December 19, EPA Administrator Johnson denied California the waiver it and the other states need to implement clean cars standards to lower carbon dioxide emissions. Despite the unanimous recommendation from EPA's technical and legal staff, Administrator Johnson bowed to requests for favors instead of waivers. Call Administrator Johnson out on his inside-the-beltway decision to deny Americans clean cars, cleaner air, and action to curb global warming.
Call Administrator Johnson out on his decision to deny Americans clean cars, cleaner air, and action to curb global warming. If you live in a state that has adopted the California clean car standards (Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont or Washington) or in a state that is in the process of adopting the standards (Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota or Utah), include a personal note to Administrator Johnson. He is blocking your state's right to require automakers to sell cleaner cars to help reduce global warming pollution.
2) Take Action: Stop the EPA's Illegal Policy to Weaken Clean Water Protections A new Bush administration policy could strip Clean Water Act protections from a majority of the nation's streams and an estimated 20 million acres of wetlands. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence that protecting these small streams and wetlands is essential for keeping our drinking water sources clean and minimizing flood risks to our communities, the administration's policy guidance excludes many of them from Clean Water Act protections. Many of our nation’s waters are already polluted; we can not afford to damage more waters by denying them Clean Water Act safeguards.
Tell the Administration to protect all of our waters!
3) Technology: New Tools Help Consumers Save Money A new government study has found that giving families the tools to monitor and adjust their energy use lowered monthly electricity bills and reduced energy consumption by up to15 percent.
The study, preformed by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the Energy Department, found that widespread use of this technology could generate enough energy savings to make up to 30 new coal-fired plants unnecessary, saving the over $70 billion it would cost to build them.
Increase the efficiency of your house!
