Take Action: Thank Secretary Salazar for Standing Up for Wilderness
Last week, the Department of the Interior announced that it will likely reject a proposed road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. The road would cut directly through the heart of the refuge, an area that is critical habitat for grizzly bears, caribou, salmon, shorebirds, and waterfowl. Part of the area the road would cut through is also federally protected wilderness. Write Interior Secretary Ken Salazar now and thank him for standing up for wilderness! Take Action: Tell the EPA to Protect Florida's Water from Polluter Slime! Last November, the Environmental Protection Agency adopted strong standards to prevent dangerous pollution in Florida's waterways. These rules will save our waters from the toxic slime that puts drinking water, the economy, and ecosystems at risk. However, pressure is mounting from Governor Rick Scott and his Big Polluter pals to turn control over to the state’s industry-controlled agency. Tell the EPA to protect Florida's environment and fully enforce the Clean Water Act! Grassroots Activism: More Than 124,000 Comments on Coal Exports Last week the Department of Ecology in Washington State announced that it had received more than 124,000 public comments on the proposed Cherry Point coal export terminal. Congrats to our "No Coal Exports!" team in Washington for helping generate a huge percentage of those comments. Grassroots Activism: Climate Rally Satellite Events The massive "Forward on Climate" rally is this Sunday, February 17. More than 100 buses are headed to Washington, D.C., from around the country -- find one near you to catch a ride!
