Take Action: Stop the Tar Sands
Grassroots Activism: We've Been Slimed Florida Sierra Club activist Maria Bolton-Joubert is busy fighting a gross problem in her state -- slimy waterways caused by excess pollution. Creepier and grosser than any Halloween costume, the slimy problem (and Maria's hard work) is detailed in Sierra Club Program Director Sarah Hodgdon's latest column. Grassroots Activism: Thousands Against Coal Exports in WA The first of seven Cherry Point coal-export terminal hearings was held in Bellingham, Washington, last Saturday, and local Sierra Club staff and activists worked with a large coalition to turn out more than 2,000 people to speak against the dirty export plans. Nice job, Washington. Grassroots Activism: Don't Frack the Hoback Victory! Congratulations to the many Wyoming activists who have fought for years to protect the Upper Hoback basin from oil and gas drilling. Recently the news came down that "Houston-based Plains Exploration and Production Company finally agreed to sell its oil and gas drilling leases in Wyoming's spectacular Upper Hoback basin to the Trust for Public Lands for $8.75 million. With this deal, the leases will be permanently retired and can never be sold again." Learn more on the Lay of the Land blog. |
