Photo: Ami Vitale/Panos Pictures Grassroots Activism: Floating Beyond Coal in North Carolina The many activists of Asheville Beyond Coal are celebrating a successful "float beyond coal" event this month. They gathered more than 30 kayaks and canoes for a great photo op on Lake Julian in front of the Asheville coal plant. The flotilla was part of a recent push to educate Asheville residents on why the town needs to move beyond coal and invest in clean energy. Grassroots Activism: Getting More Vets Outdoors Sierra Club Mission Outdoors has been landing many media hits recently on their great work getting military families and veterans outdoors. In Colorado, KDVR-TV put together a nice story on veterans using their leadership skills in the outdoors. Mission Outdoors Director Stacy Bare also received attention for his excellent op-ed on the issue for the El Paso Times. Grassroots Activism: Protecting Utah's Canyonlands Sierra Club Utah activists are hard at work protecting the state's beautiful Canyonlands from development and irresponsible grazing.
