These national treasures were all permanently protected as national monuments by a sitting U.S. president, and that’s why we are able to enjoy them without fear that they will be ruined by mining, drilling, or clear-cutting. Grassroots Activism: Protecting the Great Outdoors Last week, nearly one hundred volunteers joined the Sierra Club's Mission Outdoors and Resilient Habitats campaigns in our nation’s capital for Great Outdoors America Week. Volunteer activists met with the administration and elected leaders to talk about protecting our public lands and providing more opportunities for Americans to connect with the great outdoors. Grassroots Activism: Stopping Coal in Mississippi Congrats to the Mississippi Sierra Club for their work getting a coal plant's proposed 15 percent rate hike rejected by state regulators. The Sierra Club has challenged the dirty, expensive, and unnecessary Kemper County Coal Plant project from its inception, and this rejection by the state public service commission has dealt a strong blow to the proposed plant. |
