Take Action: Tell Congress to Protect Clean Air
Republicans in Congress, led by Majority Leader Eric Cantor, are preparing for an assault on commonsense clean air protections. The "TRAIN" Act, H.R. 2401, would indefinitely delay the cleanup of dangerous power plant air pollution, including mercury, soot, cancer-causing dioxins and acid gases. Tell your member of Congress that you demand strong clean air protections and want them to vote NO on H.R. 2401. |

Victory: Phasing Out Coal in Texas
The Sierra Club is celebrating yesterday's announcement from TXU-Luminant that it will phase out two units at its coal-burning power plants and cease lignite coal mining at its Monticello Plant in northeast Texas. "This is a victory for all Texans who care about clean air. Coal-fired electricity is the primary source of toxic mercury pollution and is a leading trigger of asthma attacks," said Eva Hernandez with Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign in Texas. While Luminant is blaming the Environmental Protection for its closure, Sierra Club has led the way in showing Luminant's issues are financial, not in material compliance. We'll continue to fight for cleaner air and good, clean energy jobs. |
