EPA Needs YOUR Support for a Strong Mercury Rule
It's time to break out the huge large-mouth bass again! After 20 years of delay, EPA is moving forward with regulating mercury and other toxics from coal-fired power plants. In 2004, Georgia EPD estimated that over 20,000 babies are born in Georgia every year with elevated levels of mercury, which has been linked to developmental disorders like ADD and autism.
You all did such a good job at the Greenhouse Gas hearing in Feburary that EPA is coming back for more love and support. The third of three national hearings will be held here in Atlanta at EPA Region IV HQ on Thursday, May 26th, from 9am-8pm. We will be hosting a hair testing event at Vintage Barbershop from 12-1pm and a Fish Fry Rally at 5:30pm. Ways to help:
1. Share this email.
2. Submit your comment in favor of the rule online at www.sierraclub.org/mercury.
3. RSVP by clicking here to REGISTER to attend the May 26 Events!
4. Share the Facebook event on your wall and with your networks.

Southern Company Shareholders Meeting -- May 25th
Last year, David Ratcliffe, Southern Company's CEO told the Athens Chamber of Commerce that solar and wind had limited applicability in the Southeast. This year Southern Company has a new CEO, Thomas Fanning, who says he's "bullish" about solar. While that is a refreshing new line, we hope that some of the barriers to solar in Georgia can be removed. Now it is offshore wind Southern doesn't think will work, despite their own study concluding its potential off the coast of Savannah. If you own shares and want to join us on a trip to Callaway Gardens to talk about it, contact eghand@bellsouth.net.
