"It wasn't the gas industry that helped Obama win in Iowa and helped him inspire millions of people around the country. It wasn't [...] activists from Big Oil going around and knocking on doors across the country." - Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune 1. Take Action: Stop Unregulated Oil and Gas Drilling |

1) Take Action: Stop Unregulated Oil and Gas Drilling Natural gas drilling, especially hydraulic fracturing, is leaving communities in Wyoming with worse air-quality days than Los Angeles and creating toxic, radioactive wastewater. Unfortunately, oil and gas lobbyists have succeeded in carving out loopholes in the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Air Act, leaving families all over the country to suffer from the effects of unregulated drilling -- dirty air and polluted drinking water. |

2) Take Action: Protect the Gray Wolf Legislators are trying to undermine the Endangered Species Act by overriding the scientific findings of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. They want to strip protections for the gray wolf by attaching a rider to an unrelated funding bill -- and then saying it must be passed by the end of this week to avoid a government shut-down. It's not the role of Congress to decide which species should receive protection and which shouldn't -- that's up to the scientists. |

4) Passing Grade? Banks Put to the Test A new report card issued today by Rainforest Action Network and the Sierra Club ranks ten of the world's largest banks on their financing of mountaintop removal coal mining projects. Only one bank, Credit Suisse, received an "A" while the three largest financers of mountaintop removal coal mining show a great need for improvement. Get the details and see the full report card here. |
