Oil Spill
Commission’s Independent Report Critical to Understanding Dangers of Dirty
Fuels
Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the Oil Spill
Commission released a portion of its independent report on the BP oil disaster
in the Gulf, shedding light on the largest oil disaster in history. The Commission is slated to release its full
report next week.
In response, Sierra Club
Lands Protection Program Director Athan Manuel issued the
following
statement:
“Unfortunately, the Commission's findings in its
independent report on the systemic failures of Big Oil companies and their
partners in the BP disaster come as no surprise to us.
“It is clear that without real accountability,
corporate polluters will continue to make their bottom line the priority over the
safety and well-being of their workers and the communities in which they work.
“This release emphasizes the importance of independent reports that will help reveal the true cost of our dirty and dangerous addiction to oil. We appreciate the Commission’s important work on this issue, and look forward to their final report next week.”
