Tar Sands Environmental Review is Flawed
Recently, the Department of State released its Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for a massive pipeline designed to carry tar sands oil from Canada into the United States.
Tar sands crude is not the same as conventional crude - as a matter of fact the synthetic crude oil produced from tar sands emits 20% more global warming pollution than conventional oil. Building this one pipeline would result in approximately 38 million metric tons of additional greenhouse gas emissions per year, the equivalent of adding over six million cars to the road!

Happy Birthday, John Muir!
Happy 172nd Birthday to a guy who surely would have been very involved in fighting global warming today: Sierra Club founder and conservationist pioneer John Muir.
To help celebrate Muir's birthday, the Club has begun a project to update and redesign our well-known John Muir Exhibit. This site has more than 1,000 pages of information, including biographical info and much of Muir’s writings; rare archival photos; a Google Earth feature of Muir's travels, and much more.
