Secretary Salazar Takes Down For Sale Sign on Public Lands
Sierra Club Praises Common Sense, Balanced Leasing Reforms
Washington, D.C.---The Department of the Interior today announced series of important reforms to the onshore oil and gas leasing program for America's public lands. The Sierra Club offered the following comments in response.
Statement of Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director
"Today's move represents yet another significant step toward a balanced, common-sense approach to energy development on our public lands. The reforms announced today will help ensure that wildlife, water, and our public lands receive the important protections they deserve. "Secretary Salazar deserves much credit for the dramatic turnaround he's managed to affect after just one year at the Department of the Interior. Instead of an anything goes bonanza for Big Oil and other special interests, Secretary Salazar has taken down the for sale sign and is now managing our public lands for the benefit of all Americans." # # #
