Clean Energy Jobs Legislation Ready for Big Month
The next week will be a busy one for the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act from Senators John Kerry and Barbara Boxer. The Environmental Protection Agency is expected to release its analysis of the bill either this Friday or next Monday.
And then the Environment and Public Works Committee, which Senator Boxer chairs, will hold hearings on this bill next week (the week of October 26th). The bill will then be marked-up in the committee in early November. Once all committees with jurisdiction over the bill have weighed in, it will be taken up on the Senate floor.
As we head into international climate negotiations in Denmark in early December, comprehensive action on clean energy and climate will send a message to the international community that we are serious about tackling greenhouse gas pollution.
Tell your Senator we must continue to fight polluting industries' attempts to block progress and keep the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act strong!
Island Nation Holds Underwater Cabinet Meeting
This past weekend the president of the island nation Maldives held an underwater cabinet meeting. Why? To show off what the future of the Maldives may be as the effects of global warming increase as the islands are only an average of four feet above sea level.
Maldives' President Mohamed Nasheed said he wants to bring awareness of the threat of sea level rise to the globe and encourage them to take action now to end global warming. See a news clip of the underwater cabinet meeting here.
