Sierra Club Ads Get Dirtier
Still Not As Dirty As Coal
Washington, DC: The Sierra Club, with the Sierra Student Coalition today launched the second in its series of online video ads, part of its nationwide campaign to kick coal off campuses. With organizers on the ground in several of the more than 60 campuses with on-site coal plants, the Campaign is working to transition schools to 100% clean energy.
The second ad takes the stereotypically “dirty” college behavior of the first ad and bumps it up a notch. Though college life allows for leniency in the socially acceptable, coal still crosses the line. Watch the ad here: http://www.2dirty4college.com/
"With more stories about how coal is dirty every day the energy debate has broken out of the beltway," said Bruce Nilles, Director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign. "It’s now taking place on college campuses where students are mobilizing, collecting thousands of petitions and taking action to support clean energy and moving away from coal."
"There are some things that are just unacceptable. And running our schools on coal is one of them," said Kim Teplitzky, National Field Coordinator for the Sierra Student Coalition. "Young people are taught to think for ourselves. We see through the coal industry propaganda to the fact that coal is dirty and not the best option for our future."
Students are getting fired up across the country, with more than 11,000 participating in efforts to get their college presidents to shut down on-campus coal plants, engaging with faculty and organizing to make sure their schools are models for sustainability, not monuments to the past.
The ad campaign, including both print and online pieces, will run through the end of October with the third video ad to be released next week. Check back for the third video here: http://www.2dirty4college.com/
