Celebrate Greater Energy Independence This 4th of July
Washington, D.C.—As Americans celebrate Independence Day, the Sierra Club offered the following resources for celebrating energy independence as well.
Statement of Carl Pope, Sierra Club Executive Director
"As we celebrate our freedom this weekend, it's the perfect occasion to reflect on how can all work together to achieve greater energy independence in the months and years to come.
"While much progress has been made in recent months, we need our leaders in Washington to press forward with a comprehensive clean energy and climate plan. Getting America running on clean energy will create millions of new clean energy jobs and make us more energy independent by fueling our cars, homes, offices, and factories with clean energy produced here at home instead of dirty and expensive oil imported from abroad. Such a plan is not only good for both the economy and our environment, it will help bolster our national security.
"We also encourage every American to think about the small steps they can take in their everyday lives that will reduce their energy bills, slash emissions, and contribute to a cleaner planet for everyone."
