Now that the American Clean Energy & Security Bill (ACES) has made it out of a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee, you may be asking, "What's next?"
Now we are committed to strengthening it as it moves forward. Here are three ways to make ACES better:
- Increase the numbers for the renewable electricity and energy efficiency standards.
- Retain Environmental Protection Agency authority as an essential backstop for ensuring that science-driven emissions reductions are achieved in time to prevent the worst effects of global warming.
- Make polluters pay for their carbon pollution in order to fund investments in clean energy; protect consumers, wildlife, and vulnerable communities; and to promote job creation rather than rewarding Big Oil, Big Coal, and other polluters.
There's some tough work ahead, but you can help! If you want to stay in the loop on clean energy and climate legislation, then get yourself added to the clean energy activists email list.
Simply email Christina Yagjian and ask her to add you to the list, and you'll get regular updates and find out how you can make a difference.
Global Warming Means Stronger, More Frequent Hurricanes
The studies keep proving that point over and over again -- warmer oceans mean stronger hurricane seasons.
Joe Romm from the Center for American Progress had a great series on this topic recently over on Grist, and an article in this week’s Houston Chronicle tells the trouble for the Texas coastline after yet another report shows the increasing threats to our coastlines.
