Save the Peter Grubb Hut!

PGH-DonationPage.png

For 75 years, Peter Grubb Hut has provided rustic overnight shelter for backcountryskiers, snowshoers, and hikers. The number of visitors now reaches into the tensof thousands. Unfortunately, in March 2013 the hut had to be closed for significant repairs. Thanks to your gifts over the summer, we were able to re-open the hut forwinter 2013-14. In Fall 2013 (Phase A) steel plates were used to reinforce the roofrafters and the joists under the main building sleeping loft. This work was carried out by 50 volunteers during five extra, late-season work parties.

In Phase B (Summer 2014) the roof and an upgraded second floor diaphragm will be anchored to the walls, and the walls themselves will be upgraded. Phase B work is needed to bring the hut back to long-term viability. Current cost estimates for Phases A and B are $32K, of which about half has already been spent. Please consider what Peter Grubb Hut has meant to you and the countless others for whom it has been an introduction to the joys of winter wilderness. Please make a tax-deductible contribution today and help us improve the hut.
