As the United States struggles with critical energy issues—such as replacing coal, oil, and other dirty fossil fuels with clean energy alternatives like solar and wind—we are also seeing a renewed public interest in nuclear energy and a resurgence in proposed development from the nuclear industry.

While the industry continues with its enthusiasm for new construction, there is dead silence on what to do about radioactive waste: mining tailings and other byproducts of the front end of the nuclear fuel chain, as well as spent nuclear fuel and other components on the back end. The Sierra Club is advocating for hardened on site storage (HOSS) as the least hazardous of the available options for existing material, and we maintain that there is no long-term solution that warrants continuation of reliance on nuclear power. We want to build the unified public voice pushing for adoption and enforcement of these strong policies.

Please contribute to support the work of Sierra Club volunteers across the country, that are working toward a clean healthy energy future that doesn’t include nuclear energy.
