While Badlands National Park is protected from exploitation and development by law, the surrounding national grasslands are not so lucky and are highly vulnerable. The roadless areas within these wild native prairies deserve full wilderness protection to protect them from mineral development, predator poisoning, and off road vehicles. Unfortunately, legislation has been introduced in the Congress that would strip interim protection from all federal roadless areas. The Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act would open up these potential wilderness areas to development. There are over 50 million acres of roadless areas nationwide, including the roadless areas in the national grasslands adjacent to Badlands National Park that would be sacrificed by this legislation. Please take a moment today to sign the petition to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid urging him to stop this dangerous legislation in the Senate.
