Remove GMO provisions from pension/tax package

Once again, misguided and undemocratic dealings in the Oregon Legislature threaten to prevent local communities from making decisions about whether to allow genetically engineered (GE) crops in their area. We need your help today to stop this effort in its tracks.

The policies of SB 633, the preemption bill in the 2013 Legislature that would have stripped the rights of Oregon counties to control their local agriculture, were quietly inserted into the pension and tax "grand bargain" currently being considered by our state legislators for this month's special legislative session.

If the policies from SB 633 become law in this tax and pension package, all local control of agricultural seed and seed products could be removed – replaced by a "one size fits all" policy dictated by the state. This bill is a thinly veiled attempt by the chemical companies to silence concerns over genetically engineered foods and gut all county efforts at addressing the growing of GE crops.

Take action today! Tell your legislator and the Governor to oppose any tax and pension package that contains pro-GE crop provisions!
