With our hard-earned victory forcing retirement of GenOn's Potomac River coal plant, and the proposed retirement of two Dominion coal plants in Hampton Roads, we're now expanding our efforts to convince Dominion to invest in efficiency, wind and solar, especially offshore wind power.
Currently, Dominion has its long-range energy plan before the State Corporation Commission (SCC) for review and approval, and that plan has no commitment to large scale wind and solar. The SCC is taking comments right now on Dominion's proposal. This is our opportunity to demonstrate overwhelming public support for efficiency, wind, and solar to the SCC, to Dominion, and public officials.Send your comment to the SCC and Dominion today and help create a clean energy future for Virginia!
Virginians Want Virginia-Made Renewable Energy!
Dear State Corporation Commission,
Dominion has proposed retirement of two coal plants, Chesapeake and Yorktown, because the plants are over 50 years old and cannot meet current and impending regulations to safeguard healthy air and clean water. This proposal makes good economic and environmental sense, and I urge you to approve these plans. Hard-earned ratepayer dollars should not be spent to prolong the lives of these plants, especially as alternatives exist that do not rely on a fuel that is increasingly costly to purchase and burn.In fact, these coal plant retirements provide Dominion with a real opportunity to invest in efficiency, wind, and solar to ensure that Virginians can benefit from the clean energy economy that is driving job growth across this country. Wind and solar also provide stable energy prices because in both cases the fuel is free.
