Ask Senator Collins to stop tar sands from coming to Maine!

Yesterday, Canada's National Energy Board approved Enbirdge's Corporation's proposal to reverse and increase the flow of crude oil, including tar sands oil, in its pipeline from Ontario to Montreal.

This means that dirty tar sands oil is one step closer to pumping through the Portland-Montreal pipeline through Maine to Casco Bay for export to the world market.

In response, Senator Angus King joined Rep. Michaud and Rep. Pingree in asking President Obama and the State Department to require a new presidential permit process and full environmental review for the Portland pipeline tar sands project.

Please contact Senator Susan Collins right now to ask her to join her colleagues.

We are confident that a comprehensive environmental impact study will show that pumping tar sands through Maine poses dangerous risks of toxic oil spills to the Androscoggin and Crooked River, Sebago Lake, and Casco Bay.

Send the strong message to Senator Collins that Mainers do not want the risk of toxic tar sands. Tell her to take a stand to protect Maine's public health, economy, and environment from dirty tar sands oil. Together, we can stop this risky and dangerous threat to Maine's environment and economy.

Dear [Decision Maker],

Canada's approval of Enbridge Corporation's proposal to reverse and increase the flow of crude oil, including tar sands oil, in its pipeline from Ontario to Montreal means that dirty tar sands oil is one step closer to pumping through the Portland-Montreal pipeline through Maine to Casco Bay for export to the world market.

Your support on this issue is crucial to protecting Maine from the catastrophic impacts a spill could have on our public health, economy, and the environment.

Sincerely,
