Thank Secretary Jewell for Protecting the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge
A decades-long struggle to protect a piece of Alaska's Wilderness has reached another milestone. With the leadership of the Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, the administration has protected a Wilderness Area in the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge from road development.
After a multi-year process, Secretary Jewell reaffirmed the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's decision to reject building a proposed road through a Wilderness Area. Allowing a road through designated Wilderness could have set a dangerous precedent for other areas throughout the country, but this decisive action protects wilderness for generations to come.
