Hold Commissioner Lyons accountable for undermining New Mexico's renewable-energy law

Solar PV

On Nov. 20, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission voted 3-2 to make damaging changes to its renewable-energy rule, despite more than a thousand public comments -- including yours -- opposing the changes.

Giving utilities double credit for producing solar energy and triple credit for renewables such as geothermal means they have to produce less renewable energy overall to meet state law. The requirement for 15 percent renewables in 2015 essentially becomes 13 percent, and the requirement for 20 percent in 2020 becomes 17.4 percent -- at most.

Commissioner Patrick Lyons was the driving force behind these damaging changes. Please tell him that New Mexico consumers want renewable energy because we know it will protect our rates and our families in the long run.
