Thank Terry McAuliffe for Opposing Uranium Mining

Over the last few months, Governor-Elect Terry McAuliffe has come out in strong opposition to lifting Virginia's current moratorium on uranium mining.  At a Veteran's Day event in Norfolk, he stated, "I don’t support uranium mining. First and foremost as governor, my job is to make sure that our communities and our citizenry are safe. I’m not comfortable with the science to the point that I can say that with uranium mining, we would be safe. I’m afraid it would get into the drinking water."

His concerns are validated by the studies that have cost us 3 million dollars over the last few years and have found that mining would be a significant threat to drinking water, public health, and local economies. Left behind would be huge volumes of radioactive and toxic waste, which has been linked to leukemia, kidney disease, and health problems for centuries in Virginia.

Please take action now to thank Governor-Elect McAuliffe for his strong position against uranium mining in Virginia and urge him to continue to support the moratorium as our next governor.

Thank You for Opposing Uranium Mining in Virginia

Dear Governor-Elect McAuliffe,

Over the last few months, you've made it clear that you oppose uranium mining in Virginia, stating that you will not allow the ban to be lifted and will take a stand against writing regulations for mining during your administration. I would like to thank you for taking that strong position. I urge you now, as you prepare to take office as governor, to restate your opposition to make it clear to the would-be uranium developers that Virginia will not be opened for mining during your term.

Thank you again for your strong support of the moratorium on uranium mining. With your help, we can protect our land, water, and communities from these grave risks.
