Last week the House Appropriations committee added a rider to a budget bill that would allow energy companies to mine uranium near the Grand Canyon and deposit the waste in the Colorado River.

Call your Representative today and tell them that you want the rider removed and the Grand Canyon protected.

Talking Points:

  • The Secretary of the Interior has already withdrawn these leases.
  • Much of the uranium from these mines would not go to domestic power production, but appears to be headed overseas.
  • Increased mining in the area surrounding the Grand Canyon could threaten the integrity of this special place and the water that 25 million people downstream rely on for drinking and other purposes.
